Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Marion Griese, mom to three teenagers, art educator to children grades 1-4, and artist. I grew up in a home where creativity was encouraged and practiced daily whether in the kitchen, with art supplies, in my father's machine shop or with fabric and thread – nothing was off limits. Working as an artist and being able to share my knowledge and love of art to young children is a great privilege! I find young kids so inspiring.
What do you do for self care?
Physical movement has always been a part of my day. Whether I am running, cycling, swimming or on long walks with our dog Oliver, moving helps me clear my mind or work through ideas (and daily lists). Time with family and friends, reading, going to a concert or taking off to Toronto for the weekend to wander galleries and design stores with my husband are all important remedies that help me recharge.
How do you manage home, work life with a family?
Like any mom or caregiver knows, working and running a family household is a constant balancing act and requires a lot of organization. My lists and calendar are my friends and keep me on track when it comes to appointments, scheduled studio time, teaching time and knowing where my kids need to be. My husband is a business owner and a great support, and we always seem to find ways to make things work together.
Thank you Marion, your art practice is one I aspire too! Pease check out Marion’s art work at and she will also showing her work at Art Interiors. I have my eye on one of her smalls that will be sold at Festival of Smalls opening on November 2.
My goal with this project is to stop competing with other women and start celebrating and cherishing our accomplishments, especially with all the holidays around the corner. We are all on a journey and for me it is all about surviving and today I survived! If you need help, ask for it; if you have help to give, give it!!
